with Dayla Kay Kohler Thanks for Reading The Foothills Times Straight Arrow Paso Finos When I first started the Horsin’ Around Day during the Stokes County Agricultural Fair (Thursday every year), Joey Burnett, his wife Karen, and his two daughters, Cheyanne & Kayla, stepped forward to help me make the event AMAZING! They have been with me since the start! Joey, Karen, and Cheyanne ride, while Kayla makes sure every detail is perfect! They make it look easy, but I know the hard work they all put into every show! In 1994, Joey started in Paso Finos when he was boarding his mustang horse at a facility that had Paso Finos. He loved the way they rode! Today, he still loves the way they ride. His Straight Arrow Paso Fino ranch is tucked away at the end of a dirt road in Walnut Cove, NC and it is a rider’s paradise! Because Joey is a horse lover in general, he offers his training talents to all breeds of horses. Often, I have watched videos of Quarter Horses, Walkers, and other breeds he is training crossing the creek on the back of his land or working in the round pen. If you have a horse that needs training, I highly suggest his expertise. Not only does he train the horse, but he brings the owner/rider in on the training once the horse is ready for the next level. They invite visitors to Straight Arrow Paso Finos! The day we talked about this article, he was preparing for a group of visitors. Some were experienced riders, while others had never been on a horse in their lives. He had the bon fire ready, the music ready for the hoses to dance to, and the horses all groomed and ready to perform. I know these people had no idea of the talent and fun they were about to enjoy! When I asked Joey how his breeding program was going, he replied, “I believe we have some of the best-bred Paso Finos out there. But, (he giggles) that is just my opinion!” Straight Arrow has been focusing on Pinto Paso Finos since 2000. However, they do not sacrifice gait for color! Each mare/stallion pairing first focuses on an improved gait, if they get spots, that is a plus, but the focus is always on a better horse! With 3 National Winning stallions and 7 mares, the solid bloodlines they have are providing generations of National Winning Paso Finos. If you get a chance to see the amazing Straight Arrow Paso Finos perform, you will have witnessed equine perfection! I know I cannot say enough about how much I love the Burnett family and their horses! If you are looking for a Paso, look no further. If you need a trainer, Joey is it! Please be sure to tell them I sent you. Call them at 336-529-5072 or find them on Facebook! Sincerely, Dayla Kay Kohler 20
