By Sue Erwin Scuba aficionado Jim Joseph has a passionate understanding about the reefs that exist in Boca Grande Pass and the Charlotte Harbor. He has participated in countless organized group dives in the Gulf, helping to add steel structures, barges and concrete rubble to the Capt. Jeff Steele Reef, Novak Reef and Tremblay Reef. He has also done mapping and surveys on many of them, collected and reporting the data to government agencies. Joseph owns Fantasea Scuba Dive Center in Port Charlotte. He and a group of like-minded divers participated in four cleanups in Boca Grande Pass during the late 1990s and removed about the equivalent of two dumpsters of trash and fishing debris. “A group of local fishing guides started the Boca Grande Enhancement Fund, Inc. and initially did a two-day dive event to clean the trash out of the Pass.
