The Venice Sharks Tooth Festival Friday, April 7 from 4-9 p.m. Saturday, April 8 from10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday, April 9 from10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Venice Municipal Airport Festival Grounds on Airport Avenue. The Venice Sharks Tooth Festival brings out fossil collectors from all around the area. Venice is known as the “Shark’s Tooth Capital of the World” because of the millions of white and black shark’s teeth fossils that wash up on Venice Beach, as well as on other near by area beaches. Florida Lighthouse Day Saturday, April 8 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Port Boca Grande Lighthouse & Museum 880 Belcher Road,Boca Grande Once a year, guests can climb the light of the Port Boca Grande Lighthouse. Lamp Room tours will also conducted by the US Coast Guard. This event is free to attend, but $5 per person to climb the light. Climbers be at least 6 years of age and physically able to climb. Pay on the day of the event in the Gift Shop. Visiting authors and several nature and wildlife organizations will be on hand. Crafts for the kids. Cake and punch served. There will be three separate egg hunts starting with the 4 & under age group, the 5-7 age group will go next and finish with the 8-11 age group. Easter Sunday Sunday, April 16 Free Youth Fishing Tournament Saturday, April 29 from 9 to11 a.m. Boca Grande Fishing Pier – north end of the Island (Entrance just south of Kappy’s Market) Grab your fishing pole and tackle box and come join the family fun at the youth fishing tournaments sponsored by the Boca Beacon and Boca Grande marina. The tournament is for boys and girls ages 15 and under. Bait will be provided (no lures allowed). All children must be supervised by a parent/guardian for this event. This is a catch and release tournament. Registration is not necessary – just be at the pier ready to fish by 9 a.m. Refreshments are not provided so please bring what you need to drink and eat.
