Clearwater Memorial Bridge The first Clearwater Memorial Causeway bridge was a wooden bridge constructed around 1915. The bridge lasted until the early 1920’s at which time a two-lane low level drawbridge was built. The bridge was dedicated to the heros of WWI. Much later in 1963, the bridge was built as a four-lane mid level drawbridge to allow for expansion. In 2001 construction began on the new 70-ft. high level fixed span bridge. After some delays during construction, the bridge finally opened in 2005. 40 | Clearwater Beach Visitor’s Guide
