You will be swept away on a musical journey from the soft and gentle 1800s through the incredibly fast and swingin’ ragtime era. Milne has been called a “one-man orchestra,” referring to his exuberant and complex interpretations. His fans say he can make the piano sound like six instruments! As a recording artist, Bob Milne has produced ten collections of solo piano rags, blues, boogies and folk/traditional tunes. Guests will enjoy the intimate atmosphere of the Crowninshield Community House. Saturday, January 14, 2 p.m. One Big Grande Boca Book Club Returns: Michael Ruhlman Boca Grande Community Center’s auditorium OBGBBC (One Big Grande Boca Book Club), modeled after a nation-wide concept held in many cities across America, will be held in Boca Grande for the third year. This program serves the mission of bringing together an entire community with a common read. There is nothing else quite like it on this island and you will not want to miss it! Michael Ruhlman, nationally known author, chef, and TV celebrity, will be our guest with his book, The Soul of A Chef, as the featured book. His topic embraces the culture of food and chefs in America today. Anthony Bourdain, writing for the New York Times, describes the book as “a hold-yourbreath while-you-turn-the-page thriller that’s also an anthropological study of the culture of cooking.” Cost to attend: $150 Sponsor, $50 Reserved Seating, Free general admission after January 1. Saturday, January 21, 9 to11a.m. Youth Fishing Tournament Boca Grande Fishing Pier – North end of the Island Grab your fishing pole and tackle box and come join the family fun at our youth fishing tournaments sponsored by the Boca Beacon and Boca Grande marina. Tournaments are for boys and girls ages 15 and under. Bait will be provided (no lures allowed). All children must be super-vised by a parent/guardian for this event. This is a catch and release tournament. Registration is not necessary – just be at the pier ready to fish by 9 a.m. Refreshments are not provided so please bring what you need to drink and eat.
