GASPARILLA MAGAZINE NOVEMBER/DECEMBER 2016 27 The actual exemption application will need to be submitted in early 2017 and it is anticipated that the GICIA will be granted the exemption. The GICIA is appreciative of the outpouring of support that has come from the community of Boca Grande and residents from the surrounding areas. Individuals have been exceptionally supportive of this initiative, and we absolutely could not have done it without every single dollar that has been generously donated. Once the initial phase of planting is completed, the GICIA plans to have a celebration open to everyone who contributed to this important project. Bayne Stevenson, chair of the Land Conservancy Committee and leader of the Preserve at Mercabo project, anticipates the celebration to be in early 2017 and wants to reminds everyone that it is not too late to be added to the donor list so you will receive an invitation to the celebration. To make a donation, stop by or call the GICIA office at (941) 964-2667. Several tours for 2017 have already been scheduled and are open to all members of the GICIA or anyone who donated to the Preserve at Mercabo projects. These tours are limited and are being filled on a first-come, first-served basis. The tour dates are as follows: February 24, March 17, and April 7. On April 21 a tour of an on-island GICIA Land Conservancy-owned parcel will be conducted. Please RSVP to the GICIA for the date that works best for your schedule.
