Book Review 66 The Secret Fortune is an enjoyable satire that covers the world map well. A fast-paced storyline features two comrades, Decan and Whit, thrust in constant motion, pulling one another along as they attempt to uncover a 500-year-old secret connected to Boca Grande. Author Edd Dean accomplished something few of us ever do nowadays; he wrote every word of this novel in freehand over a one-month period from his second home in Asheville, North Carolina. He had someone type it out for him and spent the next three months editing the book. His virtue is written before Chapter One… DO NOT TELL ME HOW SMART YOU ARE, TELL ME WHERE YOU HAVE BEEN ... Dean only writes about places he has visited, and his characters are contrived from close friends and family members. This book was even inspired by his wife’s grandson, James Whitefield Warren V (Whit), who he claims as his own.
